The Sindh High Court on Tuesday suspended sentence of ex-chairman of Banker Equity Limited (BEL) and released him on bail with surety of Rs 2.5 million in corruption case. Rauf B Qadri was jailed for 10 years jail with fine of Rs 287.1 million by Accountability Court in Karachi on January 28, 2004.

He was prosecuted on charge of defrauding BEL, by misappropriating funds of bank and using it for personal purpose.

"The court has suspended the sentence of Rauf B Qadri and released him on bail, his counsel Abdul Hafeez Lakho said. Earlier, ex-chairman BEL was granted bail in his five different appeals against conviction, pending in SHC.
